Sebastian Kalm Commits to Austin Elite Rugby for the 2019 Major League Rugby Season
ROUND ROCK (TX) – Sebastian Kalm from Santiago, Chile will be joining Austin Elite Rugby here in the Capital of Texas for the 2019 Major League Rugby season. The versatile No. 8 has been playing rugby since he was a youngster but began dreaming of a professional career the moment he came overseas to Lindenwood University. After many All-American call-ups and leading Lindenwood University to their first national championship as captain, Kalm was the first, of many Lindenwood players to sign a professional contract. In 2016 Kalm signed with Pro Rugby’s Ohio Aviators where he started in every match, scored the second most try’s in the league, and was named League MVP.
Kalm then went on to play with the Kansas City Blues, 1823 Rugby, and Old Blue in New York. And again, he entered a professional contract with NOLA Gold for the inaugural season of Major League Rugby. Kalm hit the pitch only three times before suffering a neck injury which cost him the remainder of his season.
“There is always a sense of nervousness coming back from a more serious injury, like mine. Injuries are always a process both physically and mentally, with the ups and downs, but it’s a part of the job. You work hard, you heal, and you come back better; that is what gets me up every day. I’m blessed and very thankful for Austin Elite Rugby opening their doors, trusting and allowing me to keep expressing myself. We have a lot of work to do and we’re all about fighting through every second of it.” – Sebastian Kalm
Luckily, Kalm has made a vast and healthy return to Major League Rugby and we’re thrilled to have him here in Austin. Known for his green scrum cap, Kalm is a force on and off the field and Head Coach Alain Hyardet is excited to have him join our forward pack for the 2019 season.
