AG Rugby records a dominant victory over league-newcomer Dallas Jackals in the first match of the 2022 MLR Season.
The 43-7 victory is the franchise’s largest margin of victory in the club’s five-year history and places the AGs in the top spot in the Western Conference.
Head Coach Sam Harris says, “It was great to be back in front of the home crowd once again, we didn’t play anywhere near a perfect match, but we’ll be pleased with five points on the table and prepare for a tough Eastern conference DC team this next week.”
Coach Harris will be referring to a handful of handling errors the AGs suffered to start the game, which handed Dallas a 7-0 lead 10 minutes into the contest. Although, the AGs quickly answered with a try of their own and never took their foot off the pedal.
Robbie Coetzee earned man of the match; dotting down two tries for the AGs at the back of the maul, and putting in a solid defensive effort. For the second week in a row, Julian Dominguez ran roughshod on the opposition. This week Dominguez scored a highlight try of his own; the Argentinian winger is on track for yet another all-pro season.
The real winners tonight were the Austin home fans. The crowd braved the cold, and were loud from opening kick to final whistle. AG Nation was treated to youth rugby, live music, the revealing of the club’s new mascot, and debut performances from AG Rugby’s new hype squad, 512 Crew.
Next week, the AGs take on Old Glory DC at home. Gates open at 6pm and Kickoff is at 7:30pm.
