MLR Collegiate Draft Takes Center Stage: AG Rugby Looks To Reload

After a 9-win turnaround season, the AGs are back on the scouting trail looking to reload another contending lineup ahead of the 2022 season.

Tonight, three new AGs will be selected in the 2021 MLR Collegiate Draft.

“Last year’s draft helped us uncover guys like Mason Koch,  Conner Mooneyham,  and Cam Dodson, then you look at the impact the other draftees had around the league and you get a sense of how important tonight is for teams,” says AG Head Coach Sam Harris. “We’re picking lower down this year which means we won more games, we want to be picking 13th next year.”

The AGs hold the 7th, 20th, and 33rd picks in the draft after a 9-7 finish.

Director of Player Personnel Dave Hodges says, “We’ve put a lot of work into this draft process and we feel like there are guys in this draft that fit our style and can help this team win.” Hodges has been a talent evaluator with USA Rugby at the international levels on down through collegiate All-Americans and the age-grade levels. He also attended the Rugby Showcase two weeks ago to further evaluate this draft class as well as potential future draftees.
