Philip Hanson Joins The Austin Gilgronis
ROUND ROCK, Texas (November 27, 2019) – Austin Gilgronis is excited to announce the signing of Philip Hanson. Philip is a 6’3” 250lb prop from Coppell, Texas. Philip has played several positions for the Austin Huns in both 7s and 15s since 2016.
“Becoming a professional player has been my dream of mine ever since I started playing,” said Philip. “I am eager to grow my game in the place I call home.”
Philip helped start his high school rugby club in his hometown in Coppell but his high school football coaches limited his exposure to the game. It wasn’t until Philip went off to college at Texas A&M University that he could fully commit to rugby. From 2012 to 2016 Philip played several positions for the Aggies earning Red River All-Conference at no. 8 while majoring in Architecture and minors in both Computer Science and Art.
Last season, Philip earned the Most Valuable Forward award with the Austin Huns and joined the Elite.
“Phil came to us from the Huns as an injury cover late last season and did not look out of place in his core roles at the MLR level,” said Andrew Suniula. “He’s joining the Gilgronis from the start this time around and we’re excited for his development and contribution in 2020.”
Welcome to the Gilgronis, Philip Hanson!
